Do you have stubborn body fat that you just can’t seem to get rid of?…
Get Rid of Stubborn Fat via Minimally-invasive Procedures
Each person has an ideal body weight and shape. For those who work hard to achieve them, it can be very frustrating when these goals are so hard to reach, no matter how diligently they exercise or diet.
For example, some people follow strict diet plans to try to get rid of a double chin, love handles, cellulite in the thighs, or visible fat under the upper arms. They do so well with their diet that they lose weight overall. But for the areas mentioned above? These parts stay stubbornly plump as before.
These are the people who stand to benefit the most from minimally invasive fat reduction procedures. If you count yourself among the people who cannot seem to get rid of unwanted fat through traditional dieting and targeted exercise, these procedures should help you achieve your target weight and shape.
Cryolipolysis
If you’re despairing over the stubborn fat under your chin or cheeks, cryolipolysis can be a solution. This is an innovative procedure that eliminates stubborn fat that diet or exercise cannot remove.
As the name suggests, cryolipolysis is the process of using extreme cold to destroy fat cells. Essentially, this non-surgical procedure eliminates fat cells first by freezing, then lets the body excrete them naturally through the liver. Non-fat cells and tissues stay healthy and unaffected.
Some people know cryolipolysis as CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting is a branded cryolipolysis procedure that has been FDA-approved since 2012. It remains the only fat-freezing technology that bears the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seal of approval.
Vargas Face and Skin is certified to perform CoolSculpting for the face and body. With our expertise in facial sculpting and CoolSculpting technology, you can look forward to excellent results in just a short time.
Is CoolSculpting safe? Yes. The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery recognizes cryolipolysis as a safe and effective procedure for fat removal. It is recommended for visibly chubby areas such as under the chin, in the abdomen, hips, thighs, upper arms, back, and beneath the buttocks.
Just how effective is cryolipolysis? Clinical studies have found that this procedure can remove up to 25 percent of subcutaneous fat after the first treatment. One or more follow-up sessions, which cosmetic specialists may recommend, can produce better results. The best outcomes are usually achieved after three months, and the results may last if the patient doesn’t regain the lost body fat.
Other key findings in the studies:
- Eighty-six percent of the treated patients had visible cosmetic improvements after the procedure.
- The procedure has side effects like bruising, redness, tingling, and numbness, but they fade away in just 14 days.
- The patient satisfaction rating for cryolipolysis is 76 percent.
Sculpted Liposuction
If cryolipolysis is the transmission of freezing temperatures to the fat cell, sculpted liposuction (also called body contouring) is the opposite.
This procedure applies controlled heat on targeted sites, like the stubborn fat under your chin, through a laser. It works the same way as cryolipolysis: technicians use a handheld device to deliver the laser through the skin. The laser heats the subcutaneous fat cells, causing them to break apart. The liver processes the destroyed fat so that it can be expelled naturally from the body.
The laser doesn’t harm the skin nor the non-fatty tissues underneath. It only targets fatty cells, which is why the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery also recognizes it as an effective fat removal procedure. The FDA has also approved the use of body contouring lasers to sculpt the abdomen, sides of the torso, back, and other parts of the body.
Sculpted liposuction is non-surgical, so it doesn’t need a lengthy recovery period. Patients, however, may need more downtime with it than with cryolipolysis.
Sculpted liposuction is a better alternative to traditional surgical liposuction for several reasons.
- Clinical studies revealed that the use of low-level laser therapy could reduce waist girth by 0.5 to 4 cm per treatment.
- Patients may observe significant cosmetic improvements after four weeks of treatment.
- Body contouring doesn’t just remove fat; it also tightens the skin — an advantage that patients don’t experience with traditional liposuction.
- It is safer than traditional liposuction if the targeted area is small and there’s little fat removed.
- It may be administered as an outpatient procedure, which means patients can save on hospitalization expenses and spend their brief recovery period at home.
- The results will last for as long as the patient maintains his or her weight.
Is sculpted liposuction better than traditional lipo? Both procedures effectively remove excess, unwanted fat from the body. Still, sculpted liposuction offers more benefits: a short recovery period, less pain, less expense, lower risk of infection (because it is non-surgical), and less saggy skin to deal with.
Deoxycholic Acid Injection
Another option for non-surgical fat removal and cosmetic sculpting is deoxycholic acid injection. This minimally invasive procedure introduces the deoxycholic acid directly into problem areas such as beneath the chin, cheeks, under the arms, the flanks, and other parts of the body where there are small pockets of stubborn fat.
Injectable deoxycholic acid is FDA-approved and only requires up to two days of downtime following the procedure. Patients may need two or more treatments at one-month intervals, depending on how well their bodies respond to the treatment.
Like the other two treatments, the effects of deoxycholic acid injections should last until a patient experiences significant weight gain.
Choosing a Procedure
Which among the three is the best treatment? The better question would be which is the right treatment for you. Each of these non-surgical fat removal procedures is clinically proven effective and endorsed by the medical organizations that matter. It boils down to what you want to achieve besides fat loss. Do you like little to no downtime at all? Are you concerned about your skin sagging? Is the cost your biggest concern? Your doctor should be able to help you make the best choice given your circumstances.
