Disappointed with Your Cool Sculpting Results? You’re Not Alone

Disappointed with Cool Sculpting Results

Cool Sculpting was supposed to be the next big thing in cosmetic fat removal. Unfortunately, it has not lived up to the hype: there are a number of common issues that patients frequently encounter, and although it may work for some patients, generally speaking there are many people who have been disappointed with their results. Does this sound like you?

Why Cool Sculpting Sounds Great

Cool Sculpting is a fat freezing procedure that purports to remove stubborn fat cells by targeting them with controlled and precise bursts of cool temperatures. The idea is that the cold freezes these fat cells, which then die off and are processed by the body, leaving the patient feeling and looking slimmer without invasive surgery.

Cool Sculpting sounds great: you have the opportunity to lose fat cells that resist other traditional methods of weight loss such as diet and exercise. What’s more, you don’t have to have surgery, meaning there are no scars to deal with and no lengthy healing time.

Common Problems with Cool Sculpting

Unfortunately, Cool Sculpting is not as easy and problem-free as some of us would like to believe. While some people may see success using the process, others are left with common issues.

One issue is that many people do not achieve the results they were hoping for. Many patients commonly report only a slight reduction in fat, while others actually have an adverse reaction and gain fat in the targeted area. This condition—called paradoxical adipose hyperplasia—tends to be more common in men than in women, and results in an accumulation of fat cells in the area that was subject to cool sculpting. In addition, Cool Sculpting requires more treatment sessions than other fat removal methods like liposuction. As a result, the total cost is usually higher and the treatment regimen takes longer.

Of course, one of the more shocking things about Cool Sculpting is that other complications like nerve and tissue damage can occur. Any time your body is subjected to extremely low temperatures, you run the risk of of damaging tissue and nerves. One Cool Sculpting patients have reported severe nerve pain that persists weeks after a single treatment.

So, What Should You Do?

There are other alternatives if you are looking for ways to reduce fat in a specific area of your body. Tumescent liposuction is probably the most reliable way of doing this, but you may also benefit from laser treatments.

With liposuction, you are able to obtain noticeable results immediately—as opposed to Cool Sculpting, which may not yield any results at all and takes several treatments regardless. Liposuction is minimally invasive and can be performed in about two hours. Post-treatment care is fairly simple, and most patients are able to begin light activities within 1-3 days of treatment (in contrast, Cool Sculpting may produce soreness in the treated area for as long as 2-4 weeks).
