The Rhinoplasty Procedure

The overall goal of a successful rhinoplasty is to improve the proportions of the nose and to restore harmony with the rest of your features without it being obvious the patient has had surgery.

The procedure can be performed one of two ways:

1. An open procedure, wherein Dr. Vargas makes an incision across the columella, the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils.
2. Or a closed procedure, in which the incisions are made within the nose.

These incisions delicately lift your nose’s tissue, allowing Dr. Vargas to reshape the structure of your nose. Then, depending on the desired result, cartilage or bone may be removed, or cartilage grafts may be added. Once the new shape has been formed, Dr. Vargas reforms tissue and nasal skin over your nose and closes the incisions.

Healing After Nose Reshaping

Dr. Vargas will apply gauze and splints to your nose to support it as it heals. You will experience initial swelling which will subside after a few weeks. However, it may take up to a year for your new nasal structure to completely heal and take shape.
